For all you fans out there who are saying "Can't everyone just enjoy
the fact that the Cowboys are 4-1?," I pose these questions back to
you: are we Cubs fans or Cowboys fans? Do we expect perfection
because of the standards that have been set and re-set by past
Cowboys teams? Are we just happy to be Cowboys fans? Do we just go
to Texas Stadium because stadiums are cool?
-
- Come on, happy-go-lucky
folks. Stop posing as true-blue Cowboys fans and admit you are just
miserable Cubs fans. Change your attitude. Demand better from your
team, because, if they know you are only on the bandwagon or at the
Stadium to be "a part of the experience," rather than to spur them
on with higher demands, what good will that be to them?
The Cowboys are, last I checked, professional athletes, not a bunch
of awe-shucks high school or college boys. Some of them may behave
like dunderheads off the field, but I am talking about what goes on
between the hash marks.
-
- The players, throughout the NFL, insist
that, somehow, they deserve to be treated like men, by their
coaches, by their organizations, and by their fans, no matter the
circumstances, no matter how poor their results.
-
- Well-then,
regarding the Cowboys, reward them when they hustle, when they play
smart, when they maintain their level of play from the previous
week, and when they perform to their potential (and not unreasonable
standards). Put away the anointing oils and make these
“professionals” earn it, every time.
-
- No free atta'-boys. A good or
great record, without the substance to back it up in a game that
really means something . . . means nothing. Who is unafraid to see
how reasonably and regularly hard he can go for his dough?
-
- We shall see. We always do.
